Dr. Stefan Bachu joins ARC
Dr. Stefan Bachu, an internationally recognized expert in carbon storage, has been appointed Principal Scientist on CO2 Geological Storage at the Alberta Research Council (ARC), joining ARC on August 1, 2008.
He has spent over a decade researching carbon storage, and over 20 years researching the subsurface flow of fluids and heat in the Western Canadian Sedimentary Basin.
Carbon recycling system closer to reality
A network of research and technology organizations is getting closer to piecing together a system that would fast-track Mother Nature’s own greenhouse gas recycling process in large volumes.
Scientists through Innoventures Canada (I-CAN) are working towards creating a system that would convert carbon dioxide diverted from industrial facilities into valuable products using Earth’s oldest plant life – micro-algae.
Dr. William Gunter receives Emerald Award
The Alberta Research Council's Dr. Bill Gunter has been awarded a prestigious 2008 Alberta Emerald Award. Gunter, who is a pioneer in the area of carbon capture and storage, won the top honour in the category of "Research and Innovation".
Heartland Area Redwater Project
Along with ARC Energy Trust, the Alberta Research Council has started the first phase for a carbon capture and storage project designed to mitigate emissions related to Alberta's oil sands. Located in the Alberta Industrial Heartland, this project is being supported by the Alberta Energy Research Institute (AERI) and Natural Resources Canada.
